The Philippine
Agricultural Scientist, an international journal for tropical agriculture
published quarterly,
is a significant repository of scientific works in the agricultural
sciences not only in Southeast Asian but also in tropical countries
especially the developing ones. It is now in its 87th volume and is
published in English. The findings reported herein are applicable not only
in Southeast Asia but also in most tropical countries. We receive
manuscripts from all over the world including African countries.
The journal is
published by the College of Agriculture, University of the Philippines Los
Baņos which is recognized as premier institution for higher learning in
agriculture in Southeast Asia.
The quality of the journal has been maintained through the years by its
two-reviewer doubled-blind peer review process and the active role of the
editor-in-chief in technical editing. Our section editors are seasoned
editors of scientific publications of national -professional societies or
authors recognized in their own fields of study not only here in the
Philippines but also in Southeast Asia or in the international scene. The
journal follows the editorial conventions set forth in the Manual of the
Council of Biology Editors, 6th ed. (1994).
In 1999, the name of the journal was changed from The Philippine
Agriculturist to The Philippine Agricultural
Scientist to reflect the change in focus implemented in the
last decade from technologies to information from laboratories and technologies.
The journal covers articles in the agricultural sciences and related fields
including agrosystems, food science, engineering, biotechnology, economics,
extension, rural sociology, development communication, and agroforestry.
Recognizing the scientist’s responsibility to the public to disseminate and
promote the better understanding of scientific information and date, we
have included an "Articles Digest" section which contains
summaries in easy-to-understand non-technical language.
In 2001, PAS gained approval from the Institute of Scientific
Information (ISI) to be included in its Current Contents and Scientific
Citation Index.
THE PHILIPPINE AGRICULTURAL
SCIENTIST was given the 1998
Outstanding Journal Award by the National Academy of Science and Technology
(NAST) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Philippines.
