THE NETWORK

The present National Corn RDE Network is composed of State Colleges and Universities (SCUs), the Department of Agriculture (DA), its staff bureaus and line agencies which are actively involved in development, refinement and extension of technologies in corn production and post production. The SCUs would include the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) at Kabacan, North Cotabato; Central Mindanao University (CMU) at Musuan, Bukidnon; Visayas State College of Agriculture (VISCA) at Baybay, Leyte and the University of the Philippines Los Baņos (UPLB) at College, Laguna which now serves as the national coordinating agency.

Corn is grown throughout the country, hence, the network covers all the Regional Integrated Agricultural Research Centers (RIARCs) in 15 regional field units of the DA, viz: Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the Cordillera Autonomous Region CAR) in Luzon; Regions 6, 7 and 8 in Visayas; and Regions 9, 10, 11, 12, the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and CARAGA in Mindanao.

VISION

A competitive corn-based industry and improved economic livelihood of the corn farming family. This is symbolized in the Corn RDE Network logo.

MISSION

  1. develop technologies which will maximize the productivity and quality of locally grown corn while also reducing its production cost;
  2. enhance farmers' income by developing suitable corn-based crops and livestock farming systems and value adding corn utilization technologies;
  3. ensure a sustainable corn production through genetic improvement and environmental resources conservation measures;
  4. identify necessary policy recommendations towards an efficient corn industry through appropriate socio-economic studies; and
  5. package the results of R & D activities for use among farmers and the corn industry through modern extension tools such as information, education and communication (IEC) technologies and participatory and social mobilization approaches.
